Starting Solids

Ava was able to taste her first solid food today! This was a big day for her and a big step to take! Most babies can start solids around four or five months old but Ava's Pediatrician advised us that it was probably safer to wait until her adjusted age says she's ready. We were advised that starting too soon since she was premature could result in a higher chance that she would have food allergies. That's something I am keeping my fingers crossed that we will totally avoid! Ava didn't weigh enough to be able to start solids until now anyway.

One reason that I am very excited about being able to feed solids is that I can finally have a break from nursing so frequently! Ava may be small but she has a huge appetite! I'm looking foward to this next stage in Ava's life and the transition away from nursing. I don't regret choosing to nurse her, it was the best possible thing I could do for Ava. However, nursing takes a lot of time and patience and is something you can never take a break from. It's a 24/7 job that can wear you down at times! We are still nursing in addition to the solids but oh how I'm looking foward to less demand!

She was so excited about this new experience

of solid food, she wanted to feed herself!
