grapes

Ava tried grapes for the first time today. She really likes grape juice and is finally eating all whole foods well without choking on them so I figured we would give grapes a try. She has been really slow with her progress with solid foods which I attribute to her being a preemie. She never advanced to thicker textures when she should have because she always had trouble chewing without choking. I can finally say that she seems to finally be past all of that so I can stop worrying as much when she's eating.

As a toddler she is picking what foods she wants to eat based on their colors or shapes and less by what they actually taste like. She loves foods that resemble a ball and she likes to pick up her peas and say "ball." So today we tried grapes since they resemble a ball and I wanted to see how she did with the tougher skin and soft inside.

Ava picked a grape up and put the whole thing into her mouth. I could tell when she bit into it by her questioning facial expression. She sucked a little bit and then spit the skin out. She did this with every single grape; she sucked all the juice out and put the skins back on the tray of her high chair. It was an absolutely hysterical thing to watch and of course I think so because I am her mother and revel in these little things.
