Afternoon visit

We went to visit Ava this afternoon for the second time today. When we entered the NICU we immediately noticed that there was something different about Ava... we could see her face! Ava nurse told us that they were in the middle of a trial run to see if Ava could successfully breathe on her own. She has been off the C-PAP for 3 hours now and doing pretty well breathing on her own!

Moments later there are louds beeps and flashing lights coming from Ava's equiptment. The nurse makes a few adjustments on one of the screens and all seems to return to normal. She explained to me what the alarms mean and proceded to guide me through each piece of equiptment and how to read the data. This helped me to feel a little more at ease and educated me a little more about NICU life.

During this visit I was asked not to touch Ava since a simple stroke on the cheek or a grasp of the hand could cause stress for Ava thus triggering RD and a return to the C-PAP. I was okay with this because the mere chance to sit next to her and watch her sleep was enough for me.
