On a recent day trip to New Hope, PA, Ava found a new lovey that I absolutely had to purchse for her when I saw it. As she glanced toward the back of the little children's boutique, Lola B., her eyes lit up with excitement as she ran toward a bookcase in the corner and exclaimed, "Check that out, Mommy! Monsters!" She then proceeded to pull every last one of them from the shelf describing their colors and silly faces. The bigger "monsters" were of course the Mommy ones and the smaller sized monsters, the baby ones. After much contemplation and comparison, she chose a small pink one named Moxy.
Moxy looks a little silly with her long ears resembling those of a bunny. Her wide eyed expression is complimented by her two yellow fang-like teeth protruding from her mouth. Even her feet are a little strange as they point inward in a pigeon-toed fashion. Although it seems a bit scary or odd for a child's lovey, it was love at first sight for Ava. Well, like at first sight is more like it. She'll never replace her bunny that is visibly worn with love but she did decide that it was time for her bunny to have a friend.
It has been 4 days and Moxy is still not allowed to come into Ava's crib with her. Each night when I ask if she would like Moxy join her and her bunny in bed, she sternly replies, "No Mommy, Moxy has to sleep on the couch." I have a feeling she will soon be allowed to join Ava and her bunny for their nightly slumber but in the meantime Moxy is doing her time on the couch.
During the day, Moxy, Bunny & Ava go everywhere together. And last night on the drive home from her father's house, Ava made up a song about Moxxie and sang it a few times through.
And Ode to Moxy
"And a two, and a three, and a two and a three
Moxy the pink monster....
Row Rowed a boat..
Down down the stream!
Merily, merliy Moxy,
Life is but a dream!
Arg! A pirates life for Moxy!
Riding on the boat!
Yo-ho! Yo-ho!
A pirates life for me...
A pirates life for MEEEEE!"
Repeat x3
*Moxy is part of a line of dolls called Ugly Dolls. Each comes with a silly story about their personalities.
