Day 8

So last night we made contact! With a little help from 2 of the nurses and a lot of patience, Ava successfully nursed and such a piggy she is! After 30 minutes she had nursed herself to sleep. It was the sweetest moment I have shared with her so far!

Before we came to visit, we picked up Ava's prescription today from a little pharmacy in Trenton. They are the only pharmacy that is able to prepare the concentrated caffeine drops in the area. We brought the drops in today and the nurse administered her first dose and explained the side effects and how to measure the doses. I hope everything goes well and the caffeine doesn't upset her.

Also...MORE BIG PROGRESS!! Ava is finally out of her incubator and she was moved into an open bed today with hopes that she will do very well maintaining her body temp!!! This was such a big step and other than her apnea and bradycardia she seems like she is overcoming all of the obstacles that were placed in front of her.

We also brought Ava some clothes from home to wear and one of her recieving blankets so she could be swaddled in something of her own that smells like home. I'm still not sure when she'll be coming home but I am hoping it is very soon with all the progress she made over the past 2 days!
